Professor
Who are you? The evaluator.
The Toast
Select all that apply the speaker’s toast
Did they give their name at the beginning?
Did they give the name of the person they would be honoring?
Did they say what their relationship is to this person (niece, friend, etc.)
Select all of the elements that apply to this toast
Not self-referential. Did they tell stories about the person they are honoring rather than about themselves? e.g. “James volunteered at a shelter over Thanksgiving one year. None of us, his friend base at college, thought that would be fun but he convinced us that we could give up two hours of the morning to give to others. That’s James, he put’s other people first” AS OPPOSED TO “I had this cold that lasted for months it seemed. And, when it was at it’s worst…”
Not filled with hyperbole. Did they tell stories rather than use hyperbole to tell of this person? e.g. “she always cared for her long auburn hair by tying it into a loose bun at the back of her head that made her look like an angel when I was a child” AS OPPOSED TO she was “so beautiful”
PG stories only. Used stories that everyone could relate to and understand regardless of age, culture, gender, economic background, sexual orientation.
